Sax que Funk e Alma que Chilla: O Duplo Álbum de Candy Dulfer que Equilibra os Extremos
Em 2009, Candy Dulfer lançou o álbum duplo Funked Up & Chilled Out, separando o disco em uma metade energética de funk e outra mais relaxada e suave. O estilo predominante é uma fusão vibrante de funk old-school, soul-jazz e grooves melodiosos, com o sax alto expressivo e cheio de alma de Candy no centro de tudo.
Candy Dulfer comanda no sax alto e vocais, apoiada por uma banda de peso: Chance Howard no baixo e teclados, Kirk Johnson na bateria (ambos com histórico de shows ao lado de Prince), Thomas Bank nos teclados e produção, além de Ulco Bed na guitarra e uma seção de metais potente. 
Destaques: “My Funk”, com a participação especial do rapper holandês Pete Philly num groove irresistível; “CD 101.9”, uma homenagem nostálgica à rádio nova-iorquina que ajudou a lançar sua carreira nos anos 90; e faixas como “First in Line” (lado funk) ou “Smoovgroove” (lado chilled). O som brilha pelos grooves dançantes e firmes, improvisações fluidas de sax, camadas de metais e uma produção coesa que permite ouvir o álbum inteiro sem quebras de clima.
Na faixa “My Funk”, Pete Philly criou sua parte em apenas uns 20 minutos após ouvir a base — um processo intuitivo que Candy comparou ao espírito do jazz. Lançado mundialmente em 2009 pela Heads Up, o disco conta com músicos que já passaram pela banda de Prince e representa mais um capítulo da trajetória de Candy, que desde o hit “Lily Was Here” e o disco nominado ao Grammy Saxuality (1990) vem misturando funk e jazz com sucesso global.Se gostou, veja também Candy Store (2007)!
