John Lee Hooker

John Lee Hooker, nasceu em Clarksdale, no Mississipi, em 1917. Sua família era de religiosos batistas, o que lhe despertou o interesse pelos spirituals cantados pelos corais nos cultos. Hooker trabalhou em fábricas de tecido nas cidades de Memphis e Cincinatti, até mudar-se para Detroit e ser descoberto pelo empresário Bernie Besman. O guitarrista, que tocava apenas para relaxar, passou a fazer sucesso, logo após o lançamento de seu primeiro disco, “Sally Mae”, em 1948. Foi nesse disco em que saiu uma de suas músicas mais conhecidas, “Boogie Chilen”. Entrava na moda o “boogie”, uma variação criada por Hooker, em suas experiências juvenis com o blues e o spiritual. Em 1979, merece destaque a sua participação no filme "The Blues Brothers". Em 1996, venceu o Grammy na categoria de Melhor Álbum do Ano com o seu "Chill Out", consagração tardia, conquistada apenas cinco anos antes de seu falecimento em sua casa, na Califórnia.
