Em 5 de junho de 1975, quando a mixagem de “Shine On” estava sendo completada, chegou um visitante em Abbey Road. Nick Mason: Lembro que entrei no estúdio e tinha esse cara parado lá, um cara gordo, e eu não fazia idéia de quem fosse.  David Gilmour: E surpreendentemente, ninguém perguntou quem era aquela pessoa, o que ele estava fazendo no meio dos nossos instrumentos no estúdio. E depois... ele entrou na cabine de controle e ficou parado ali... e foi surpreendente o tempo que foi necessário para alguém... acordar.  Nick: Finalmente, acho que foi David que falou: “Nick, você o reconhece?”. Eu olhei e acho que dei de ombros até que Dave acabou com meu suplício e disse: “É Syd!”  Brian Humphries: E ficamos ali em pé... e sentamos. Fundamentalmente estávamos traumatizados. E assim até que alguém resolveu dizer-lhe alguma coisa.  David: Estávamos incrivelmente chocados com sua aparência.  Storm Thorgerson: Eu não o reconheceria se não soubesse que era ele. Mas foi muito... muito comovente. Roger e David choraram!  David: Sabe, aquela pessoa magra e elegante, mesmo quando despenteada e confusa, que eu tinha visto pela última vez tinha agora uma forma de balão e sem sobrancelhas e muito pouco cabelo... Nick: Temos uma foto dele no estúdio naquele momento e... se você visse Syd no início de 1967 e Syd naquele momento... tanta diferença...  David: Foi uma grande perda. E, sabe... imaginar o que ele poderia ter continuado a fazer é... especular sobre isso... se quiser... ele poderia ter se tornado... tão grandioso!
