Em 1978, enquanto o Pink Floyd ainda reverberava os ecos de Animals, David Gilmour surpreendeu o mundo com seu primeiro álbum solo — uma obra intimista que revelou facetas inéditas do guitarrista mais expressivo do rock progressivo.

O disco abre com a instrumental "Mihalis", um convite hipnótico que já define o tom contemplativo do trabalho. "There's No Way Out Of Here", composição de Ken Baker, tornou-se um dos maiores destaques, com a voz de Gilmour em estado de graça. Já "Short And Sweet", parceria com o irreverente Roy Harper, traz uma energia mais crua e direta, quebrando a atmosfera etérea do restante do álbum.

Curiosidade: o disco foi gravado nos estúdios Britannia Row — o próprio estúdio do Pink Floyd —, o que garantiu total liberdade criativa a Gilmour. O álbum chegou às lojas em maio de 1978, num momento em que o punk rock dominava as paradas, tornando sua aposta no rock melódico e refinado ainda mais corajosa.

Com nove faixas que transitam entre a introspecção e a energia elétrica, este álbum é uma joia frequentemente subestimada na discografia do rock britânico.
