Os Animals originais voltam ao blues e o mundo já tinha mudado de canal

Em agosto de 1977, The Original Animals lançaram Before We Were So Rudely Interrupted: blues-rock e rhythm and blues da formação clássica, onze anos depois do último disco juntos. 

Eric Burdon no vocal, Alan Price nos teclados, Hilton Valentine na guitarra, Chas Chandler no baixo e John Steel na bateria. AllMusic destaca o Dylan “It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue”, com Price em evidência, o solo de Valentine em “Fire on the Sun” e o Jimmy Reed “As the Crow Flies”; entram ainda o original do grupo “Riverside County” e o fechamento “The Fool”. Chandler produziu pelo selo Barn; a gravação saiu do Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, em Goulds Farm. 

O título cita a coluna de William Connor no Daily Mirror depois da Segunda Guerra: “como eu estava dizendo antes de ser tão rudemente interrompido”.

Lançado em 1973 pela Columbia, The Guitars That Destroyed The World é uma pérola eclética do hard rock, blues e jazz-rock, reunindo feras das seis cordas em faixas que pulsam com energia crua e solos incendiários. Capturando o espírito rebelde dos anos 70, quando o rock explodia em fusões malucas e distorções épicas.

A versão matadora de "Buck's Boogie" do Blue Öyster Cult, com sua boogie hipnótica; "Marbles" de Carlos Santana e Buddy Miles, um jam jazzístico alucinante; e "The Dance Of Maya" da Mahavishnu Orchestra (com John McLaughlin no auge), um turbilhão de fusão indiana e velocidade insana. Tem os irmãos Winter em "Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo", Mountain com "Don't Look Around" e Spirit em "Dark Eyed Woman" – todas com timbres pesados e grooves que grudam.

Concebido por John Berg e Murray Krugman (produtores de BÖC), o álbum surgiu como uma vitrine ousada para guitarristas do selo CBS, misturando estilos radicais em sessões de estúdio que ecoavam o caos criativo da era pós Woodstock. A capa psicodélica, desenhada por W. Weber no estilo Zap Comix de R. Crumb, reflete o underground fervente de 1973 – um relicto histórico que influenciou compilações futuras.
